UPDATE : I’VE TURNED NOTIFICATIONS OFF. OTHER STAFF ARE COMING FORWARD SAYING IT DID NOT DIE IN THE PEN BUT WAS EUTHANISED.
IT MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT HAVE HAD A BEHAVIOURAL TEST. THIS IS UNCLEAR.
I DON’T WANT TO WILLINGLY MISLEAD ANYONE.
INSIDE THE LDH.
This little dog was flagged multiple times by staff caring for the dogs in the pens. Behavioural, medical and possibly neurological concerns.
Nothing was done.
One morning it was found dead in it’s pen.
This is a breach of Code of Practice for Pounds and Shelters. Veterinary treatment MUST be provided.
Yes. Where is the accountability of the LDH Veterinary staff?

Does any dog get out alive ?
This is clearly a bigger issue than a couple of gigs and needs a full scale investigation!
So sad. Like all the other cases at LDH this needs investigation and potentially legal action
It’s a disgrace at any stretch of the imagination little elderly dogs can be snappy they have aches and pains just as us humans do as we get older so you understand and compromise.
The more horrid stories are exposed the more my heart breaks for all these innocent babies 😞
This is so heartbreaking. Poor little baby. 🥲😡
That baby looks like it has hydrocephalus..like it's not exactly hard to see there's a neurological issue and something very wrong with its entire head
Dogs not gigs thanks iph
No that’s heartbreaking 💔 😭
Sweet baby I hope you passed peacefully and knew love in your lifetime because you deserved so much love and care and dignity which you didn’t receive at the LDH 💔😡
Omg 🤬. Poor lil darling 😢
That’s heartbreaking!
So sad!
Sweet baby, didn't stand a chance
Omg heartbreaking. Poor little soul 🤬🤬😭😭
So cute n too sad poor sweet little thing. They sometimes can be bitty due to their size. It's their protection. This tiny baby no matter what age people would've been climbing over each to have it. I understand how upset you feel. Let's hope justice n investigation will now done for this sweet pea
Keep on hammering away Kae. Looks like this could become huge and about time 😡😡😡🥲🥲
He/she must have been so lonely and scared.💔
Was it LDH again?
What kind of people are working there
Lost dogs home, AGAIN! RIP little dog!
I don’t know how many of these I can read Kae.. it’s just wicked beyond belief 😭💔
I have no words. NO WORDS.
OMG HOW COULD THEY 🤬🤬🤬
Seems they are ghouls
In October 2024 a woman in Dandenong was attacked by three of her own dogs. Police shot and killed those three dogs – the woman rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
The puppies of these dogs were taken to the LDH.
They were adopted out to the public.
If Murphy was such a danger to the public he had to lose his life because of ‘Genetics’ and one day of testing in a frightening place like a shelter, I am going to ask the $60 Million dollar question here.
What about these puppies?
The Lost Dogs Home had no right to kill a puppy. A baby. They know it was wrong. They know he didn’t do anything other than be a happy loving puppy.
It begs the question into their lack of consistency for behavioural assessments, when some get tested and others don’t.
I do not believe a word they have said throughout this backlash of Murphy’s death. They have scapegoated the mother, lied to the foster parents, and tried to justify killing a puppy – by hiding behind the Code for ‘public safety’.
For a puppy?
The disgraceful and utter callousness within Management and the Behaviourists in the Lost Dogs Home is well and truly flying a red flag for all of us.
No wonder it’s red. It’s covered in Murphy’s blood.

Illegal breeding and people buying, the problem starts from there.
Maybe they said they killed him, and actually a staff member has taken him????
The problem with 'behavioural testing' is there is no clear structure or evidence of results. It is a smokescreen to allow shelters to justify their own decisions. No dog would behave in a relaxed fashion when in a shelter with all the noises and scents in a concrete cage.
They would’ve had a reason to do it
My son adopted a puppy from there several years ago. He had her for almost 4 years. After she reached puberty, she tried to bite people several times. Probably protecting. He took her to behaviour specialists several times, including one recommended by either LDH or RSPCA, I don't remember. It turned out this pup had been found in a cage in a backyard amongst a litter that had to fight for food thrown into the cage They were starving and eating each other's ears. She was 3 months when my son adopted her, apparently their personality is set by then. In this case if that was known, then I don't think these pups should have been adopted out. God love them they didn't have a chance because of the bastard who bred them – I wonder if it was for fighting. When my sons first baby came along, on expert advice they euthanised her when she was about 4. She had a great life with them up till then but she just couldn't be trusted, especially with a new baby. We even thought about taking her as she got along with our dog, but she was trying to bite people, despite all the behaviour training. That was 9 years ago and he is still traumatised by the experience. He thinks there's a special place in hell for him for putting her to sleep. We think he had no choice unfortunately and the vet who did it agreed. At least she had a happy life for 4 years 😪
We just had a cat put in to care at the LDH, it also has just given birth to 6 kittens, are they in danger of being k!lled?
Kae, your eloquent argument for saving puppies is fair and reasonable. Let's hope that the LDH hears and takes on board that change is imperative.
The Lost Dogs' Home what your answer to this ??
And thats where the legal loophole is. They have set a legal precedence in 2024. LDH may have to be taken to court.
Saw your article in herald Sun today Kae…a well written and passionate article written with the same passion you’ve written all week. Well done you for standing up for and defending these poor little souls. 🐶
It’s not just puppies suffering this fate at the same establishment but cats as well, there were questions raised earlier this year about a cat found in Glenroy which ended up at LDH that a rescue had come forward and wanted to take him but LDH deemed him to be not capable of being rehomed even though the rescue wanted to take him and the people that found him said he was friendly, they are not a place l would want my animals to accidentally end up.
Exactly , non of it makes sense . If your going to be governed by rules and regulations then at least be consistent . To me it seems the behavioural specialist in Murphy's case, has a lot to answer too .
LDH has lost compassion 💔
Disgraceful LDH
Is his sister safe saw they were looking at euthanising her. Rip Murthy
Thank you Kae …. As if you don’t have enough on your plate. There you are doing what you can to save Milly. 👏
Heartbroken for poor lil Murphy 🥺
They will never acknowledge they were wrong😡
That poor puppy. How many other puppies have had the same fate?
Thank you Kae for everything you have done after little Murphy was killed. I emailed Ldh and have had three replies back. I finally got the fundraising team to call me and have cancelled my monthly support, which I have done for many, many years. Hoping little Milly makes it out alive. 😢
Upsetting 😡 as it is, you need to put this energy into helping those you can now
We had a cat who had had an owner, we come across him at a colony in North Melbourne…he had to go to Lost Dogs on stray hold as his owners told them they had rehomed him but didn't have details….my friend contacted Lost Dogs almost daily taking him care packs…she was told he was aggressive and NOT suitable for adoption…IT IS CALLED FAS !!!!!! FEAR ANXIETY, STRESS and they should know this if they were educated and up to date…last day she was told she had until 5.30 to get him….$195 later he was being fostered by me…HE IS NOT AGGRESSIVE…HE IS A LAP CAT whose very polite
We're the puppies just agro, feral dogs too? We're they beyond redemption?

INSIDE THE LOST DOGS HOME.
A dog spent his or her last moments alive here.
You can see the struggle.
While dangerous animals must be sedated for safety prior to euthanasia – this beggars belief.
Never ever should an animal suffer, and die like this.
… See MoreSee Less
I am warning you again. Any threats – and you will be visited by the police. I'm not putting up with any violence from any one.
My vet sedates first then euthanasia. My pets have gone quiet and peaceful to sleep
Where did this happen? Chilling. Whoever did this are animal abusers.
I wonder if they sedated the poor dog prior to the euthanasia needle? A vet euthanised a cat while I was at a vet with my friend years ago and we could hear the poor thing screaming from the waiting room. My own vet told me this can happen without sedation. Who would do that??
Context?
I literally feel sick, and extremely emotional seeing this – and they wonder why animals are anxious in this environment. So much stress and panic in this photo. Thankyou to whoever shared this with you – lets keep this momentum going 💔
The wonderful Rainbow Vet who came to my home to put my elderly little Maltese to forever-sleep rubbed some sedation gel on her gums first to keep her calm, and when she was drifting off to sleep in my arms, the vet gave her the euthanasia needle. It was all so peaceful & lovely, under the saddest circumstances 💖
Half a Valium in food would easily calm a dog.
A lot of assumptions here from this one photo. That could be a pic after a nail clip bleed with the animal moving around as it is not a lot of blood. A little blood can go a long way. If it is as suggested yes extremely awful and sad. But a pic is one moment in time without context.
Omg ,it just makes me feel sick ,to think that the poor dog would have been so scared.
OMG these reported incidents are horrendous. Could a fund-raiser for legal action and media coverage be helpful.
Is this photo really from the lost dogs home 😰 Makes me feel sick 😰
OMG this is heartbreaking
My God. The fear that poor baby must have felt in its final moments. Humans are punished for cruelty towards humans. Our animals need the same respect and protection. Im devastated for that poor baby.
Can this be a charge against the person who did this as animal cruelty ?
So sad..Breaks my heart…
There are these people and the people / persons who abandon their animals.I know which I would prefer. It is the human who forsakes an animal we should be detesting.
By looking at this, I have tears for that poor dog that criminally lost it's life🥲
Heartbreaking 💔
Breaks my heart
😢😢😢 I can’t imagine what this poor animal went through.
James Servinis I’m glad that I adopted Sebastian from there..
I am lost for words ….💔💔💔
No no no no no 😩😩😩😖😡
It is heartbreaking to think of this dog's suffering. 😥
Now you have contacted your Councils with emails regarding the actions of the Lost Dogs Home staff, they cannot say they did not know.
On the below posts are email addresses of Mayors and Councillors if you still wish to write to them with your distress at what is happening in their Pound Service Provider that they pay tens of thousands of dollars for.
For those who say "Shut the place down". It can’t be shut down. Here’s why.
Since RSPCA Vic have reduced their shelters and pound contracts – there is no one else. We need somewhere for our animals to go.
What we do need is for the Lost Dogs Home is to be run in the right way. Currently it is a Death Star for our animals.
So instead of saying shut it down – let’s get the right people in there.
I have been speaking to employees and former employees of the LDH. Their information is explosive. It is a living hell for many of the staff who stay, who care for the animals, under a brutal regime of Management.
Let’s separate those who work hard daily to care for the animals, from those who make the decisions to kill, ignore, neglect the animals they are paid to look after.
One thing I want to remind you of. Aggressive, violent animals are impounded in the Lost Dogs Home. Unmanageable, and life threatening. These animals must be treated with caution. Staff often do a dangerous job caring for these dogs. I want that foremost in your mind.
There are Court dogs – waiting for the system to decide their fate. Locked for months or years in a pen, their minds bent by the stress they are rarely the same again. These dogs suffer a monstrous life for the time they are in there. Most are euthanised. It is a legal action between Council and owner – and they are held at the LDH – nothing else. I won’t enter into the logistics of the issue – but I will enter into the care these animals receive behind those four walls. I hope that is very clear.
As the information came through on my phone and computer last night – I realised how horrific things are in the Lost Dogs Home.
It is going to be extremely confronting for you.
I want to assure you RWL is not missing out – I will be posting about our work and the care our dogs receive. But a lot of the posting will be about the LDH, to break open the silence and secrecy, to ask for your help in contacting or writing, and above all to refrain from any kind of personal violence towards the staff of the LDH.
You can ask for resignations without threats. Anyone who threatens and I don’t see it – let me know. I will contact Police.
And so here we are again. I ask any staff or ex staff of the LDH if they want to come forward, you can contact me here or on rescued1@bigpond.net.au to tell your stories.
Ten years ago we as a community rose and saw the departure of evil. With the help of the media, I hope we can get help for the change the animals need.
Many of you have asked who can stop the horror in there. The LDH falls under Melbourne City Council and Casey Council because that is where they are located.
The LDH must obey the Code of Practice for running a Pound/Shelter. If they are in breach – they will, like last time, be investigated with people from Council going in to the facilities and making sure it IS going to meet the Code.
The other body that regulates the LDH is the Dept of Agriculture (Animal Welfare Victoria). Due to Georgie Purcell from the AJP meeting and discussing Murphy’s killing with them – they are now looped in also. They too, can never say they did not know.
As far as doing what they are doing regarding being a Charity – they can be reported to the ACNC if they are breaching any legal points as a privately run body. You can find all of their information online at the ACNC should you wish to investigate. I am unable to do so with the amount of information coming forward – and my concern and focal point has always been to make it better for animals in our pound system, and how animals are treated within, and to give each and every one a possible pathway out to a future.
The new CEO stepping in to the LDH is Tanya Drakopolous. Ex RSPCA Vic Head of Operations. I do not know her, or her plans for the Home, and I have no idea if she is going to be the one to bring change. With ex RSPCA Vic management moving to the LDH, and ex LDH management moving to Lort Smith, and sacked management from RSPCA and LDH now at Animal Aid – I see no fresh ideas between them. They would possibly know each other or of each other – and whether they can inspire change the animals so desperately need – we can only wait and watch.
So today starts the journey. Of showing you hell on earth, and being united in what is right.
For those people in Management who have killed Murphy, and so many, many others, I want resignation. For the neglect and cruelty within those walls, I want resignation. For the fear and bullying of those who try to get help for the animals, I want resignation.
Are you with me?
… See MoreSee Less
I actually got a reply today from an email I sent to the City of Casey, voicing my concerns about the LDH. At least it wasn’t a generic response and they acknowledge my concerns and say “We are currently seeking clarification on Milly’s status and the plans for her future.” Fingers crossed 🤞
I wonder if you can answer this. Why have the LDH have 16 councils that they tendered for & how on earth can they look after so many stray, abandoned animals? I did hear that they have a quota on killing animals as this is how they get funding? From the council.
I will always be there with you Kae.
YES!
What about all the irresponsible pet owners, if people were better at looking after these pets, shelters and rescues would not be inundated, we need to stop the band-aid approach.
Actually got one response !!!! Out of 20!!!!
I’ve shared this to a number of lost pets pages I’m on.. interestingly it’s been removed for the Lost Pets of a Melbourne fb group 😏
Plain and simple close those bastards down
What about contacting the Four Corners program to do their investigative journalism and expose not just the LDH but the wider practices of similar so called ‘shelters’?
This simply cannot be acceptable anymore they Lost Dog's Death Home has to be shut down
I will be with you through the gates of Hell Kae. This needs to change.
They also need a new behaviourist, I assume dogs are killed on the recommendation of the behaviourist
Again I must add the BOARD is ultimately responsible do resignations here must be asked for. They instruct the Management and they cannot evade responsibility. Either they don’t know in which case they are in breach of Directors duty or they do know that Management is not following their own rules in which case they are again in breach. dogshome.com/about-us/board-of-directors/
So much to be done but I'd like to see hard line measures in place when considering the employment and appointment of staff and board members. Grass roots stuff. Get the right people in with the right ethos and value set; integrity and compassion; pragmatism and common sense; decency and respect; and the prerequisites go on. As Jane Goodall said, "Change happens by listening and then starting a dialogue with the people who are doing something you don't believe is right."
They need to be reminded of their Duty Of Care to do everything possible to ensure the humane treatment of all animals. They are permitted by law to ensure the best animal welfare practices. This is legislation and they can be prosecuted. Im studying these subjects at the moment.
Could Lawyers for Animals provide advice ,if they are not already involved? They have an animal law clinic.
I’ve always maintained that people like you and I along with those work in foster, are generous of spirit with a deep love of animals ..much like Murphys foster family, and I’m heartbroken for them all atm as they must be feeling every bit as angry sad and unempowered to do anything that changes the abhorrent practices within..please come forward and help make change so no other animal has to suffer the same fate as BABY Murphy..unless there is a very good reason and it’s done with compassion and care .
Is there anything we can 'positively' do or assist with right now to support the staff and animals adversely affected in this matter? I think a majority of the community who have posted genuine concern, support and understanding to this issue are very aware there is going to be no quick fix or that bureaucracy will fast track an investigation into the situation unfortunately. So my question is what are the positive ways we can help in the interim? What do they need? – Foster Carers – $$$ Donations – Volunteers/Staff Animal Provisions : – Food, Treats/Snacks, Prepared Dietry Meals -Soft Beds, Raised Beds, Indistructible Beds, Cacoon Beds, Straw/Hay for Beds -Blankets & Towels -Soft Toys, Chew Toys, Balls -Food Bowls, Water Bowls -Jackets, Coats, Jumpers -Bird Cages, Food, Toys -Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Ferrets, Mice, Rats Cages, Enclosures, Food, Materials for Bedding, Toys, Fresh Food – Specific Special Needs Items eg. Aids, Food, Hygiene Products, Beds – Volunteer Drivers/Transport – Endless Tim Tam's, Milo and Icy Poles for the ever deserving Volunteer Staff I believe if we can show and relay compassion and physical support (Actions speak louder than words 🥰) during the waiting game we install HOPE – another JANE GOODALL inspired thinking x
Absolutely behind you, but I have reservations on the new staff who are being shuffled from one bad organisation to another, but I live in hope! Best of luck
Well done! 100% with you Seems like all those management 'changes' are just sidesteps and jobs for the boys and girls. Keeping it all in house. If you don't toe the management line you're not on the board or in the job
I am in NSW but certainly putting my voice in there where I can.
I refer to the Four Corners program titled, The Last Race, which was aired Five years ago in relation to the appalling animal welfare standards in the Horse Racing industry in Australia. This particular episode shone a bright light on the cruelty and hidden agenda, so we need to do exactly the same for the LDH.
💯 Let's do this!
My heart aches every time I see a pic of beautiful Murphy 💔 It makes me cuddle my beautiful Moodle a little bit tighter and tell him how much I love him ❤️
